Sustainability & Responsible Travel Statement
Our Promise to Sri Lanka and Our Guests
Tour with Wasi is a boutique travel agency (BR: AA
11780) dedicated to the "Slow Travel" movement. We believe that tourism
should be a force for good—protecting our environment, celebrating our
culture, and empowering our local communities.
Economic Responsibility: Supporting Local Hearts
We ensure that the majority of your travel spend stays within the Sri
Lankan economy.
-
Boutique Stays: We prioritize family-owned
guesthouses and locally-managed boutique hotels over international
chains. However, we remain fully flexible; should you prefer an
international chain or a specific global brand, we are happy to
customize your itinerary to include your preferred accommodations.
-
Direct Impact:
We guide our guests toward local artisans, traditional markets, and
village-run eateries, ensuring fair trade and direct support for local
families.
Environmental Stewardship: Protecting Our Paradise
Sri Lanka’s biodiversity is our greatest treasure. We take active steps
to minimize our footprint:
-
Plastic-Conscious Touring: While we provide bottled
water daily for guest convenience, we are committed to a zero-litter
policy. All plastic waste generated on our tours is collected and
transported to certified recycling facilities in Sri Lanka.
-
Route Optimization: We design itineraries that
minimize unnecessary driving, reducing our carbon emissions per tour.
-
Waste Management: We educate our guests on "Leave No
Trace" principles, especially when visiting ancient ruins, beaches,
and hiking trails.
Wildlife Ethics: Respecting the Wild
As a veteran operator with 20 years of experience, we maintain a strict
code of conduct during safaris:
-
Safe Distances: We never "crowd" or chase animals for
photos.
-
Natural Behavior:
We do not support attractions that involve animal performance, riding,
or forced interaction.
-
Certified Partners:
We only work with jeep drivers and park rangers who share our
commitment to animal welfare.
Cultural Preservation: Authentic Connection
We act as cultural ambassadors. We provide our guests with guidance on
local customs, traditional dress codes for sacred sites, and basic
Sinhala/Tamil phrases to foster a deeper, more respectful connection
with the people of Sri Lanka.
